Reviews about The Coconut Lagoon Restaurant
- 1 / 5By David BaylissThis place bills itself as a "Boutique Hotel", it's closer to a mediocre boarding house or B&B with scatter cushions on the bed and terrible wallpaper everywhere.
I've never stayed in a building with noisier floorboards, thinner walls or more nauseating wallpaper in my entire life and I stay in hotels the world over on average three days a week.
I would value a room here at £50-60 a night at most. If you're looking at higher prices then you will easily find a better room for your money within the area. Also factor in the £5 a night parking charge.
Did I mention the wallpaper?
I have stayed here for three nights (unfortunately booked in advance and paid for in full on arrival) in this time I have had the same duvet cover, with stains, (not mine I'd like to add), the same peanut on the floor in the corner of the room (clearly not hoovered) and two shower caps, but no hairdryer.
The "award winning" restaurant was a revelation. I saw no evidence of "said award" but I suspect that, like the reviews, it was self-generated and undeserved.
My "award winning" starter was followed by an equally "award winning" main. Sadly it was the "not at all nice food from a limited, bizarre and uninspiring menu award"
I have found during my stay here the Queen and Castle (15 min walk, 3 min drive) and the Clarendon Arms (next door to the Queen &'Castle) which both serve fabulous British and pub food classics in an offensive wallpaper free environment. Additionally, if you really want a fabulous curry I'd suggest The Rivercross which is literally five minutes walk along the same road.
If you are unlucky enough to find yourself in the Peacock Townhouse hotel follow these steps...
1. Don't move, as the floorboards will wake up the whole building and the other guests have suffered enough already.
2. Try not to open your eyes unless you like the look of 1970's raised wallpaper the colour of baby sick.
3. Don't eat here. There are so many better places within a very small radius.
4. Leave a review. Things don't change unless you're honest.
On a positive note, the wifi was OK and the staff were average.
